Student Government Retreat Weekend

Hi Everyone!

It’s been yet another busy, yet fun weekend here at the ‘hurst.  Right after my Friday class got out, the Mercyhurst Student Government (MSG) and I headed off in a van to the McKeever Camp Grounds for a fun filled and productive retreat.  There are three class senators for each grade, and then one senator for each academic school.  MSG is a real great way to get involved, meet some cool people, and to be one of the first to hear about news going on around campus.

My friend Sarah and I
The retreat started off with us unpacking our stuff and then going to a meeting about our goals for the school year.  We did have beds (thank goodness!) and it was a room full of bunk beds with the girls on one side and all the guys on the other side; kind of like one giant sleepover!  I loved that the set-up looked exactly like summer camp on tv; I didn’t exactly know what to expect because I never went to summer camp when I was little.  I honestly didn’t know what to expect out of the meeting because this was my first retreat, but it was actually really cool with the level of energy and ideas that were being shared from person to person (it sounds so corny, I know!).

My bunk bed for the weekend =)
We then had dinner and headed off for dessert, s’mores!  Going through the woods trying to find the fire pit was quite the adventure… it was quite the hike!  But s’mores and hanging out by the firepit and just hanging out/getting to know people was great; I definitely made a lot of new friends from it.  Now the time we got back, it was really late, but we had to play the traditional game of Pictionary.  It was guys against girls, and of COURSE girls won!  At the end of the game, it was probably around 1AM so we all went to bed to get ready for an early 8AM breakfast.  Waking up was brutal, I’m not gonna lie, but we still had some unfinished business to cover.  After another meeting with our committee, we all headed back to campus and once I got back to Mercyhurst, I literally threw my stuff on the ground and took a 2 hour nap!  I then got my act back together after some well deserved rest and went on a spur of the moment dinner date with my friend Emily to Panera Bread where we caught up.

Sunday, I basically caught up on homework since I never really had the chance to do it Friday or Saturday.  Definitely not the most fun of days, but you gotta get the school work in somewhere!

MSG 2010-2011... a great weekend, indeed!
