Open House, Mansions and Vera Bradley Bingo

Hi Everyone!

So this Saturday was definitely very busy and VERY blog-worthy! =)

After a very fun Friday (I went shopping, went laser tagging-- yes, laser tagging, and hung out with friends), I started my Saturday off with a bang.  Mercyhurst was hosting it's first open house of the year.  Open House is a great opportunity to visit the campus, receive tours, and other information about the school for prospective students who are looking to learn more about our fabulous school.  As an Ambassador, my duty was to stand by the very recognizable Mercyhurst rock at 8:15 in the morning (WAY too early for a college student, haha!), and direct families how to get to the performing arts center.

The Watson-Curtze Mansion
On Saturday, I also had a field trip for History of Dress to the Watson-Curtze Mansion, which is a museum about 15 minutes from campus.  Erie has a lot of cool history, so it was unique that we have such a gem so close to campus!  We had an appointment with the costume curator and she showed us all of these 19th and 20th century century dresses, shoes, and accessories.

Going to a museum on a Saturday afternoon definitely wasn't something that I can say I was especially excited for, however after leaving the museum, I can honestly say I was really glad I went!  Some pieces that really stuck out to me were these one pair of shoes (there was a pair of 20th century alligator shoes, with the heads on the shoes as decorations!) and some 1920's flapper dresses (that I would have LOVED to have taken home with me!).

Saturday evening, my friends and I celebrated our friends' birthday since it fell during Fall Break, and then my friend Andrew and I at the last minute decided to go to Vera Bradley bingo.  Andrew wanted to do some Chirstmas "shopping" for his mom and sisters and I didn't have anything better to do, so figured why not try to win a Vera Bradley?!  This was a fundraising event for one of our sports teams and boy was it a hit!  We met one of my roommates Kaleigh, and some of her friends there, who were also trying to win.  There were 20 rounds and sure enough, Andrew and I both got bingos!!  I couldn't believe it because I never win at bingo (or at any game, really), but tonight was certainly a great night to claim a win.  I'm not gonna lie, I definitely jumped up and screamed "BINGO!" when I won it... but I did manage to contain myself from screaming like some of the other girls =)

It's hard to believe that I'm just weeks away from finishing up the term.  Thanksgiving Break is coming sooner than I realize, which means my trip to London and Paris trip are getting closer and closer... but it also means that end of the year work and finals are even closer!  Here's to a productive next few weeks to come!!
